I am co-author of the ROM Dance Program. Here is some information about the program and this particular video.

The ROM Dance Range of Motion Exercise and Relaxation Program was created in 1981 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin by an occupational therapist, Diane Harlowe MS, OTR, FAOTA, and a T’ai Chi expert, Tricia Yu, MA. It is an innovative mind/body exercise and rest program that combines Western medical model therapeutic exercise with Eastern T’ai Chi principles. It features slow, gentle, flowing movements that are accompanied by quiet music and a verse with relaxing images. The entire sequence takes about seven minutes to complete.

This program has been used internationally by people with arthritis, lupus, fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s, MS, chronic fatigue syndrome and other painful or limiting health conditions. Initial development, research, and creation of new versions and media for home use were supported in part by grants from the Arthritis Foundation. Published long-term efficacy studies have demonstrated the therapeutic effects of the ROM Dance.

The program includes 3 videos and a manual. This particular video is appropriate for both in-home instructional use as well as use by therapists. All the movements are done from a seated position and include a special hand exercise routine. The verse includes images of water, light, and friendship. The video includes the following sections: 1)Introduction, 2)ROM Dance Demonstration: Seated Version, 3)Adaptive Equipment, 4)Relaxation Demonstration, 5)Interviews with Participants, 6)Seven Principles of the ROM Dance, 7)Precautions and teaching, and 8)Demonstration of the original ROM Dance (done both seated and standing) for those who are progressing to a standing position.

The other two videos are: ROM Dance in Sunlight (original version) and ROM Dance in Moonlight (an adaptation for those with Lupus or sun sensitivity). The manual is most applicable for health care professionals using the ROM Dance in their practice. All of these materials are available.

Here are a couple of reviews of the ROM Dance:

“The ROM Dance is an excellent set of exercises that allows patients with Arthritis to maintain good Range-of-Motion without placing too much stres on their joints. For me, the soothing nature of the program promotes an inner sense of well-being.” (Douglas Lain, MD, Rheumatologist)

“The ROM Dance is an ideal tool to enhance your mobility and peace of mind. I recommend it highly.” (Richard Carlson, Ph.D., Certified Rolfer, Co-Editor of Healers on Healing, Author of You Can Feel Good Again.)

I got this and the easy light weights exercise dvds for my Mom, She Loves them. The exercises are very well explained and demonstrated before the trainer starts doing them, and done at a nice pace and she follows along easily. Mom exercises with this DVD one day and with the Lightweights DVD the next day alternating between them. She has gained more strength and balance in just the few weeks since she started doing these exercises. The Sunny Beach setting is beautiful and the music is nice.
There is a beautiful peaceful relaxation at the end of the program with nature, flowers, swans, dolphins. This is one of the better exercise dvd in the market for seniors. Recomended.

Excellent sitting chairs exercises for seniors. I am very glad to have got this DVD. The exercises are very well explained by the teacher and are slow enough for me to do. The DVD is about 35 minutes long which is great. The sunny beach background is beautiful to exercise to. The teacher reminds to breathe all the time which I catch myself holding.
Excellent for seniors and elderly and those who want to do easy simple sitting chair exercises.
